AVONDALE, Ariz. – On a very hot afternoon when the desert sun baked the field, Garrett Smithley held on for a 24th-place finish in Saturday’s DC Solar 200 Xfinity Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
Smithley qualified 23rd and raced in mid-pack, finishing on the lead lap.
“A tough day out there,” Smithley said. “It was punishing on the cars, but we managed to hold things together and get a decent finish.”
The three JD Motorsports with Gary Keller drivers finished in a row – Ross Chastain 22nd, Harrison Rhodes 23rd and Smithley 24th.
Justin Allgaier won the race, and Elliott Sadler kept the point lead.
Auto Club Speedway will host the next Xfinity race March 25.
